The School of Physics and Astronomy launches the "Odd Socks Week" as part of National Anti-Bullying Week

This week is National Anti-Bullying Week. The School of Physics and Astronomy works hard to provide a pleasant and professional working environment for all staff and students, promotes the University’s Dignity and Respect Policy and is committed to the prevention of bullying and bad behaviour.

In order to recognise and increase the visibility of this cause, the School announced the launch of Odd Socks Week in our School which celebrates the uniqueness of every individual amongst us.
We would like to encourage all of you to participate in this fun activity by wearing Odd Socks to work each day AND posting a photo of them on the School’s social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter. You can also print and pin a photo of your Socks on the new poster board in the foyer near the rocket!
In addition to the School’s Odd Socks event, the University is also hosting the "Change Starts with Us" event:  In 2017 as part of the Standing Together initiative, for anti-bullying week, we pledged to challenge bullying and unacceptable behaviours leading to the launch earlier this year of our Dignity and Respect at Leicester framework.

On Tuesday 12 November 2019, members of the university were invited to a special pledge event in the Charles Wilson Park Lounge.  Pledges were made by President and Vice-Chancellor Nishan Canagarajah, members of Executive Board and senior executives from the Students’ Union. There were displays from a range of key stakeholders including the Students’ Union, Student Support  Services, Standing Together, Staff Health and Wellbeing, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team, Unison, UCU, Unite and the Staff Equality Fora.
