College reading study

Background Information

EL1000We are conducting a research project on reading in college age students, which involves recording people’s eye movements as they read lines of text. We are seeking volunteer participants to take part in this study.

As part of the experiment, we will assess participants’ visual abilities using standard Eye Charts, their working memory using standard tests, and reading ability using a standard reading test (Nelson-Denny).

Taking part in the study will give you the opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes at a research intensive university. Laura also studied her Undergraduate Degree in Psychology at the University of Leicester, so this will give you the perfect opportunity to ask any questions about the course and the university.

We will also offer some Amazon vouchers in exchange for taking part in the study.

To take part in this study you must :

  • be 16 -18 years old and have gained parent's/carer's permission to participate
  • Be a native UK English speaker (Born in the UK, learnt English as your first language in the UK)
  • Have good vision (glasses and contact lenses are fine)
  • Have no history of reading disorders
  • Have no history of epilepsy

Where will the study take place?

lp-msb.jpgThere are two parts to this study and both will take around an hour each.

Both sessions will take place in the eye tracking lab on the third floor of the Maurice Shock Building on University Road.
