Laboratory Name: Prefrontal, Anxiety & Compulsivity (PAC)

My Research Objectives/ Projects are:

  1. [To obtain funding]: Role of the interaction between anxiety and compulsivity in mental health; combining cognitive tests, psychiatric questionnaires and physiological testing (healthy individuals, high anxiety/compulsivity traits/patients).
  2. [To obtain funding]:  Prefrontal connectivity, in particular role of the vmPFC in a rat model of compulsivity/anxiety, using small animal imaging (resting stated fMRI) to investigate vmPFC connectivity.

Technical Experise/ Methods:

Neuroimaging, cognitive tests, mental health research, patient recruitment and deep brain stimulation, interactions of the vmPFC and basal ganglia.

Grant Applications:

  • MRC, Neurosciences & Mental Health- New Investigator Research Grant £ 350,000. Jan 22, 2020/decision: July 2020. Anxiety, Obsessions and compulsions: effects of altered prefrontal valuation.
  • BBSRC, New Investigator Scheme: £350,000. April 2020/October 2020 Translational insights into prefrontal connections of anxiety and compulsivity.
My research would benefit from development of these facilities:
  • Neuroimaging
  • Improved connections with the NHS/local mental health support (I am working on this)
