Local societies and conferences (Ian's blog)

Want a Travel grant?

Let’s get involved in our local societies and get connected, there is so much going on. Many offer very attractive membership rates for PhD students and Postdocs…. and then you have access to their Travel grants…..

Many support their members and affiliates with generous travel grants (of up to £500) so this really helps to spread your grant travel funds. I’ve listed a few of the major UK and international conferences – remember that you often have to submit an abstract 6 months ahead of the meeting, so plan ahead and check the closing dates!

Please email Emma with any other Societies and Meetings and we’ll add them to the Theme Web page.

Links to major Neuroscience Conferences in the UK and abroad

  1. The Physiological Society meeting always has a very strong Neuroscience component; this year it is at the end of June 2014 in London with abstract submission in March.
  2. British Neuroscience Assn (BNA) and Federation of European Neuroscience (FENS) Meeting is alternate years BNA, then FENS. This year it is in Milan.
  3. The British Psychological Society meeting is in May at Birmingham
  4. The British Pharmacological Society meeting is in Dec 2014 in London.
  5. BNA next year in April 2015 is in Edinburgh
  6. Society for Neuroscience: This is the biggest event in the Neuroscience calendar. And from the USA perspective: if you are not there, you are nowhere! The meeting is always held in Oct or Nov , with abstract submission toward the end of April.
  7. Experimental Psychology Society. There are 3 meetings each year. The next are in Kent in April, Newcastle in July, and the January meeting is always at UCL in London. Small grants are available to members and for members’ postgraduate students to attend meetings and to make study visits.
  8. British Society of Neuroendocrinology. Once you've been a member for 12 months there are a few small funding opportunities available.

Be great to see a few more Leicester faces at these meetings.
