ESRC Midlands Graduate School funding for Postgraduate Research

Established in 2016, the Midlands Graduate School Doctoral Training Partnership (MGS DTP) is a collaboration between Aston University, University of Birmingham, University of Leicester, Loughborough University, University of Nottingham, and University of Warwick. The DTP offers 17 different training pathways that span various social science disciplines, and will be awarding several studentships across the pathways and institutions for 2017 entry.

The School of Museum Studies is inviting applications from outstanding prospective students interested in the Museum Studies Training Pathway, with research interests in the following areas:


  • Museums, heritage, cultural rights and development in ODA-recipient country contexts
  • Objects in contexts of (forced) migration
  • Rights in objects
  • University museums and campus politics
  • Digital interventions in museum and heritage learning
  • Design methods for digital media in museums
  • Digitally-mediated learning, engagement, participation
  • History and heritage in museums and heritage sites
  • Emotions and heritage working with communities
  • Heritage and Cultural Policy / Politics
  • Tradition, Memory, Class and Politics
  • Museums, Heritage and Participation
  • Class and Heritage
  • Museums, wellbeing and recovery
  • Museum architecture and design
