The aim of my research is to explore the relationship between cultural institutions and local communities within World Heritage Cultural Landscapes, in order to understand to what extent heritage and identity values are negotiated as to develop sustainable management that enhances the preservation of ‘living’ sites and the production of local heritage.

I will explore how the preservation of cultural landscapes can coexist with the multi-layered and changing nature of their social significances, while considering the implications of these perspectives on museums' management, community engagement and heritage interpretation. In particular, I will analyse how cultural institutions within the landscape - including museums – are supporting cultural and social practices that actively engage local communities in the preservation of cultural landscapes, in order to shift from a role of mere consumers of a ‘ready-made’ heritage to one of producers of culture.

I had the opportunity to actively collaborate with different Italian museums, ranging from art galleries to historical institutions, with a meaningful experience in storytelling with Metaphor, Design and Masterplanning, in London. As Head of the Educational Department at the Accademia Carrara of Bergamo (Italy) my work focuses on audience development, communities engagement and accessibility. In order to develop a deep consciousness of the historical, cultural and social values of this museum I am creating a network with the cultural institutions and communities rooted in the region.
