Gordon Fyfe obtained his degrees in sociology from the University of Leicester where he was also a tutorial assistant for three years. He went on to teaching and research at Keele University from 1971 to 2003.  His research has been primarily focused on the historical sociology of modern art institutions and museums. Other interests include Victorian Studies, visual sociology and the history of British sociology. He has been a Managing Editor of The Sociological Review (Britain’s oldest established journal of sociology) and served on its Board from 1975 till 2014. He is co-editer of the on-line Review series “Past and Present”. He is also a founding editor of Leicester University’s online journal Museum and Society, and a member of the Board of Museum History Journal. His publications include Picturing Power (co-edited with John Law), Theorizing Museums (co-edited with Sharon Macdonald) and Art, Power and Modernity.
