Taught Masters Degrees

illuminated initial from a manuscript in the unversity library.jpgMedieval studies are key to many of the Taught MA programmes offered at Leicester. Some, such as the MA in History, allow students to pursue a ‘medieval pathway’ throughout the course, and several others allow students to study medieval options and to pursue a thesis on a medieval topic under the supervision of one of our specialist staff.

All of our MA courses include core research training so that our MA students are well qualified to pursue advanced research at MPhil and PhD level. Our MA students can study medieval palaeography, ancient and medieval languages (Latin, Greek, Old English, Old Norse, Middle English) as well as ‘how to survive archives’, or archaeological techniques including artefact studies and landscape analysis (mapping and GIS).
