Dr John Goodall’s groundbreaking work on The English Castle will be the topic of his illustrated public lecture on Thursday 29th March at 6pm in Ken Edwards Lecture Theatre 3. In his lecture Dr Goodall will explore the many motives for castle-building in Medieval Britain – capricious and military – and why castles hold such a strong grip on the historical imagination.

Received to much critical acclaim in both academic and popular press, Dr Goodall’s recent book The English Castle, 1066-1650 has ‘kissed the subject awake. … It is an authority that scholars will consult for generations’.
