New Starters and Leavers

Support provided by the Departmental Professional Services Team for new starters:

  • Accommodation/IT equipment - all new members of staff will be allocated an appropriate workspace and PC:
  • For space/office/desk queries, please contact Jon Tillotson-Roberts, jar20@le.ac.uk, ext. 7044
  • If new IT equipment is required, please contact Karen Monger, km13@le.ac.uk, ext. 7095
  • IT account - an application for an IT account for new members of staff will automatically be processed prior to their arrival (on receipt of an employee number from HR).  Please contact Brankica Besevic, bb100@le.ac.uk, ext. 7037
  • Swipe card access - an application form for a swipe/ID card will be provided during the staff induction.  Please note that new members of staff will need to visit the Security Office (on main campus) to collect their swipe card.
  • Staff induction – A staff induction (usually with Brankica Besevic) and an appropriate health and safety induction (arranged by Jon Tillotson-Roberts) will be organised for the new starter at the earliest opportunity.  Queries regarding staff induction should be addressed to Brankica or Jon.
  • Probation - all new members of staff are required to complete a satisfactory probationary period.  Line managers should arrange regular informal review meetings to monitor the performance of the new member of staff during their probationary period.  Further information on the University's Probation Policy can be found from the HR website.
  • Mandatory training courses that all staff are required to undertake within their first few months are listed here: Mandatory training courses .  More specific training is also provided via the Leicester Learning Institute.
  • Buddy - all new members of staff should be allocated a ‘buddy’ who is a member of staff who has agreed (with the permission of their line-manager) to be a point of contact for a new member of staff and who can provide informal guidance and encouragement during their first few weeks of employment.  Please ensure that Brankica Besevic, bb100@le.ac.uk, ext. 7037 is informed of the name of the buddy.

Line managers will be emailed guidance notes regarding the role of a buddy, before the new member of staff starts. 

Support provided by the Departmental Professional Services Team to staff leaving the Department:

  • Leavers meeting - all staff will have a leavers meeting with the Department Manager, Karen Monger, km13@le.ac.uk, ext. 7095, to discuss/agree the actions required and arrangements to be made prior to their departure.  This discussion may include actions relating to finance, equipment, arrangements for research data and continued IT access (if required).
  • IT account - staff IT accounts will normally close on the last day of service.  However if prolonged access to email accounts is required, arrangements can be made to keep the account open for a maximum of 3 months following the last day of service.  Further information can be found here:  https://www2.le.ac.uk/offices/itservices/ithelp/my-computer/account/faq/i-am-leaving-retiring-university-it-account
  • Equipment - all equipment purchased using University funds remains the property of the University of Leicester and must be returned to the Department prior to a member of staff leaving.
  • Swipe card - all swipe cards should be handed in to Karen Monger (HWB 0/28) or Brankica Besevic (HWB 0/26) on the last working day.
  • Data (paper and electronic) - all research data must have a University of Leicester data owner.  Arrangements must be made for all research data to be transferred to another member of staff prior to departure.
  • Finances - if you have any research projects or MIF accounts, please ensure that Amanda Fisher (MIF accounts), af81@le.ac.uk, ext. 7040 and Kerry Warner (research accounts), kw153@le.ac.uk, ext. 7041, are aware of any agreements regarding the funds in relevant accounts.  Academic staff who are leaving the Department should discuss any financial arrangements with the Head of Department or Departmental Manager.
  • PhD Students - if you have any current PhD students, please ensure that Jasbir Summan, jks43@le.ac.uk, ext. 7098, is aware of any arrangements that have been made for students following your departure.
