Science Open Day 2016

On the 12th of October 2016, the Department held its first Open Day, on this occasion aimed at Year 12 students.

For over three hours, our scientists welcomed students from places such as Groby, Leicester, Northampton, Corby, Wellingborough, Rothwell and Coalville to the Henry Wellcome Building.  To showcase the work carried out in the Department there were a series of short talks delivered by leading researchers, hands-on activities, displays, competitions and tours of our research labs.

Over a hundred students from nine schools had the chance to hear about and see our research and talk to our scientists, while having some fun and enjoying the refreshments.

Some feedback from schools who visited in 2016:

“Excellent day for the students - they really enjoyed it and it was brilliant to see first-hand working labs.”
“We would definitely come again and will be recommending it to the teachers of the next year 12 cohort. It was well executed and timed so that they could see everything.”
“Thank you, it was a great opportunity to bring students along!”

Further Departmental Open Days will be announced in the future.
