PhD research

Our population of PhD students is rapidly growing, and we are developing a strong research culture to which you would contribute

There are regular research seminars both in translation studies and in modern languages and all graduate students are encouraged to contribute to these in their second and subsequent years. Particular strengths across the languages are in the following areas:

  • Film, theatre and visual culture
  • Politics and cultures
  • Gender studies
  • Contemporary cultural and literary studies
  • Postcolonial, migration and regional studies
  • Latin American culture, travel writing and literary theory
  • Memory and Holocaust studies
  • Translation and interpreting.
