Translation and Interpreting

Our new Research Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies offers degrees at both BA and MA-level, whose diverse modules are taught by staff with high levels of expertise in translation theory, translation and interpreting, translation philosophy, and processoriented translation studies.

Our research expertise in these areas feeds into learning opportunities for students in the shape of courses on translating written genres, translation for the stage, media translation, audiovisual translation, interpreting, website translation, translation pedagogy, and the history and theory of translation. Our new, state-of-the-art interpreting laboratories facilitate students’ learning, and the study environment provided by the Centre is further enhanced by its leading role in international research activities such as the Arts and Humanities Research Council funded network on Key Cultural Texts in Translation, which explores the adjustments and accommodations undergone by texts and peoples in cultural encounters across times, nations and languages, and the EU funded project on Translation in Language Teaching and Learning.
