Research Summary

Marc completed his PhD thesis, entitled ‘The Best of All Worlds? Representing Space and Belonging in Luis Buñuel’s Mexican Cinema’ in November 2014. His thesis approached the study of Luis Buñuel and that of cinema more widely from a fresh perspective, focusing on the representation of space and questions of belonging, in order to move beyond psychoanalysis and genre analysis, both common in Buñuel studies and Film Studies more generally. Marc has secured a contract with Wallflower Press to publish this research as a book. He is also a guest editor of a special edition of the journal European Comic Art, to which he also contributed an article on Fermín Solís's graphic novel adaptation of Buñuel's Tierra sin pan (1933).

Marc’s other research interests include Hispanic horror cinema, and he is currently researching the presence of foundation myths of nationhood in Jorge Michel Grau’s Somos lo que hay (2010).
