Dr. Joubert joined the School of Modern Languages at the University of Leicester in 2011 after having graduated and taught at the University of Manchester. Her background undergraduate and postgraduate education lies in the field of general and Romance linguistics. Her specialism is the external history of the French language and languages found in France. Her doctoral study investigated the evolution of prestige and speakers' attitudes towards two Romance minority languages, namely Occitan and Catalan. Her area of expertise is French linguistics, in particular the standardisation processes of the French language, the relation between language and identity and other sub-areas of French sciolinguistics. She has recently focused her research on language policies and their effect on the definition of individual and group identity but is looking to develop new paradigms of comparative or contrastive analysis (especially in Italy).

She has been a guest lecturer at The University of Bangor and is currently teaching a second year course on Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Manchester. Dr. Joubert is establising herself as a specialist on minority language issues in France and as a Romance linguist in the UK. She has attended international congresses and has a record of publications (Association Internationale d'Etudes Occitanes, International Association of Language and Social Psychology, conference of the Anglo-Catalan society).
