BSL Beginners - Unit 102

This is for you if you have completed the BSL Unit 101 or you have prior knowledge of BSL. In this unit, the term ‘everyday life’ relates to work, studies and other familiar routines, environments and activities. Learners are expected to know and use BSL in their own environment.

Timetable

Courses will start in October 2017. It comprises 30 learning hours over 1 term. Lessons are two hours long and take place once a week. The course will have been completed by Christmas.

Wednesday 6 - 8 pm
●  Term 1: 10 weeks (30 learning hours), starting 11 October 2017

Fee

● Full course 10 weeks - £130* (30 learning hours), October to December 2017

This course will be taught in a small group: Minimum 6 and maximum 12 students.

*Includes all tuition, access to VLE (virtual learning environment) and handouts, but not a textbook.

Entry level

You should have completed the BSL Beginners Unit 101.

Exam fee

If you wish to gain formal accreditation for this course you can take the 'Level 1 Award in British Sign Language' (BSL102) exam, awarded by Signature, for which there is an additional fee of £35 (see the Signature's Fees Booklet 2017/18). Register to take this exam following this link.

Course content

  • Describe people, animals and objects/furniture.
  • Say and ask about location of things.
  • Give and request information about others.
  • Count up to 100 using local numbering systems.
  • Express and ask age, the time, dates and using money.
  • Describe your interests and day-to-day activities.
  • Request information about others day-to-day activities and interests.
  • Share information about food and drinks.
  • Order food and drinks.

Language degrees

Modern Languages at Leicester, part of the School of Arts, offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees combining French, Spanish and Italian with each other and with other academic subjects. We also offer degrees in translation and interpreting.
