Why Study Medicine at Leicester?

We are one of only a few Medical Schools in the UK to offer hands-on, full-body human dissection and prosection, providing excellent first-hand learning experiences for our students. Each group, usually 6-9 students, have access to an individual cadaver. Our Dissection Room underwent refurbishments in August 2013.
Our state of the art facilities located in the George Davies Centre provide Leicester Medical School students amongst the most advanced facilities in which to study medicine in the UK, allowing us to train innovative, sector-leading physicians.
You will be taught in small clinical teaching groups and with a focus on apprenticeship style learning
We strive to make everything clinically-relevant whilst incorporating new technologies. The way in which Healthcare Practitioners work is changing, so we’ve swapped paper and pen for iPads, which you will be given (free) in your first year!
You will learn to undertake practical procedures in one of the largest Clincal Skills Centres in the UK at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. This means learning in a controlled and highly supervised setting, incorporating state of the art mannequins and simulation techniques, so that you are competent and confident before applying these techniques on real patients.
You will interact with patients in the community from early on in the course, understanding people as well as understanding science. “Social and Behavioural Medicine” is a prominent feature of the course, helping you to understand the whole person in the context of healthcare.
We are student-focused and you will be supported in your studies by a dedicated Medical School Pastoral Support Unit and an established Personal Tutor network.

Mindful that we are preparing doctors of the future, Leicester Medical School became the first to develop teaching specifically for holding consultations in an online environment.
