Widening Participation

Medicine with a Foundation Year course

Leicester Medical School offers a Medicine with a Foundation Year course for candidates living in the East Midlands who meet certain widening participation criteria. For more information, please view our Entry Requirements.

Progression programmes – ROP, LEAP and Medreach

For candidates who have successfully completed a Realising Opportunities (ROP) or Leicester enhanced Access (LEAP) programme we will consider an alternative offer of ABB at A-Level for A100 course. No alternative offer is considered for the Medicine with a Foundation Year course. If you would like to find out more about the progression programmes available at the University of Leicester, please visit http://www.le.ac.uk/progression

Mitigation

Candidates who feel they have suffered substantial educational disadvantage or other personal or close family circumstances that have affected their studies are advised to contact the medical school.

N.B. Mitigation is the same as that for our current students which is outlined in the Mitigating Circumstances Guide

Access

For some candidates we will consider an Access to Medicine course (see entry requirements).  We don't accept access courses in lieu of poor science A-Levels but will consider candidates who are re-entering education from another career or have undertaken non-science A-Levels.  Please note those with prior degrees will be scored as graduates.

We do not accept Access to Medicine courses for the Medicine with Foundation Year course.

Medreach

Leicester Medical School, in collaboration with its students and the University of Leicester School and College Services, runs an innovative, science-based, widening participation outreach scheme called Medreach. This scheme aims to raise the aspirations and attainment of young people in the local community through positive contact with current medical students, many of whom are from widening participation backgrounds themselves.

If you would like to find out more about Medreach and the activities the scheme offers for young people, please visit the Medreach page.

Outreach

Leicester Medical School, in collaboration with its students and the University of Leicester Widening Participation team, offers outreach sessions in local schools for students from widening participation backgrounds. If you are a teacher in the East Midlands and would like to find out more about these outreach activities please contact the widening participation team on wpteam@le.ac.uk
