Interview 2018

Invitation to Interview emails are sent from - please check we are not going into your junk folder.

All applications will be ranked using the combined score for academic achievement and UKCAT.  The highest ranked applicants will be invited for interview.  The lowest ranked applicants will not be considered further.

We will begin sending out interview invitations by email in late November 2017 and this will be an ongoing process until the end of February 2018.  Emails will be sent from - please check we're not going into your junk mail folder!

Our interviews use the Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) style, and consist of eight individual mini-interviews or 'stations' which will assess your:

  • Verbal communication
  • Written communication
  • Listening
  • Compassion, respect and dignity
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Problem solving
  • Motivation
  • Ethical Judgement

Each station will be scored and you will be ranked on the basis of those scores.  Where two or more applicants are equally ranked, your UCAS form score may be used as a tie-breaker.

We regularly review our interview process and hence do not endorse and cannot recommend, any interview courses.

Dates of interviews

Interviews for 2018 entry to the Medical School are scheduled to take place on the following weeks:

We reserve the right to alter these dates if necessary

  • Week Commencing 11th December 2017
  • Week Commencing 18th December 2017
  • Week Commencing 1st January 2018
  • Week commencing 12th February 2018

You will be invited to book your own interview date using our online electronic booking system.   If you cannot attend any of the dates available to you please contact the Medical Admissions Team on 0116 252 2969 as soon as possible after receiving your invitation to interview. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to reschedule your interview for another date.

For a morning interview you should aim to arrive on campus by 8.45am; for an afternoon interview you should arrive by 1.00pm.

On the day of your interview you will have an opportunity to tour the Leicester Campus with a current student who will tell you about the social life, accommodation, facilities etc.

After your interview, each station will be scored and you will be ranked on the basis of these scores.  Your UCAS form may also be examined by our selectors.  On the basis of a thorough consideration of these, one of three decisions will be made:

  • Offer (this will be conditional if you have not yet received your A Level results)
  • Hold (the decision about whether to make you an offer will be made once our position is clearer)
  • Reject

We will endeavour to send out decisions as soon as possible following interview, but please be mindful that our interview process spans a number of weeks, and there are a fixed number of places on the course.  The timing of offers can therefore vary from early January to mid-May 2018.  If you do not hear from us immediately after your interview, this does not necessarily mean you have been rejected.

For the A100 Medicine (5 Year) course we expect to interview about 900 UK/EU applicants and about 40 international (non-EU) applicants, in order to make approximately 550 offers for the 259 places (242 UK/EU, 17 International) available.

For the Medicine with Foundation Year course we expect to interview around 96 applicants for 25 places.

Disabilities, Special Needs and Medical Conditions

If you have a disability, special need (such as dyslexia) or relevant medical condition, you should enter the relevant disability code on your UCAS application, or inform the Medical School (in writing) immediately after submitting your application.  This will enable us to make any reasonable adjustments to the interview process.
