Hugo Bigi

Hugo Bigi has a PhD in Mass Communication Research and an MA in Mass Communications from the University of Leicester. He is senior lecturer at MAZ The Swiss School of Journalism in Lucerne and at the University of Applied Sciences in Business Administrations HWZ in Zurich where he currently teaches mass communications, business communications and journalism.

Hugo has also taught media literacy at the Royal Institute for Tourism and Hospitality in Thimphu, Kingdom of Bhutan. He published articles on issues of agency and autonomy in news production particularly focussing on video journalists with Roger Dickinson. His special field of academic research is contemporary journalism education and training and their implications for journalists’ experiences of their occupation. 

Hugo has successfully worked as a journalist in newsprint, radio and television in the German-speaking part of Switzerland for 30 years. He is currently a freelance author on contemporary media and journalism issues for different Swiss media and hosts an acclaimed interview program at TeleZüri, Switzerland’s Zurich based number one private television station. The program was awarded the Swiss Television Award in 2008.
