PhD topic
The Creative Practice of
Selfies: Playful Expression and Subversion in Digital Culture
Third Year
Brief Description of PhD topic
My research explores vernacular creative practices in digital spaces related to selfie production. With a focus on post-structuralist theories, representation and class, the perspectives and creative practices of individuals that resist or subvert normative cultural representation with their online self-imaging are investigated to broaden the standard definition of what selfies and creative practice mean to underrepresented groups within a digitally-mediated life.
