Department Launches Media Cultures Cluster

As part of the Department of Media and Communication's 50th anniversary celebrations, the new Media Cultures research cluster held its official launch party on Thursday June 16th.
Department Launches Media Cultures Cluster

Vicki Mayer of Tulane University

At the event - which was attended both by internal staff and students, and by visitors from a wide range of universities - we welcomed international guest speakers and presented on some of the cluster's latest research projects.

The launch hosted two themed panels: Media Ruptures and Futures (with presenters Jonathan Corpus Ong and Maria Touri) and New Histories of Media and Cultural Work (with presenters Vicki Mayer, Jessica Bain, Kylie Jarrett, and Mark Banks). We followed these discussions with a well-attended drinks reception and dinner.

Media Cultures is a new initiative that explores questions of access, opportunity, participation, development and social justice offering new insights into the role of media in our shared and contested cultural lives.
