Abstract: There are many interesting dynamically defined numerical values which cannot be expressed in a closed form and can only be estimated as accurately as possible. By using an approach based on zeta functions and transfer operators one can get both efficient and rigorous estimates on some such values.  I will illustrate this with some simplex examples  (Joint work with Oliver Jenkinson: QM-UL).
