Abstracts: Konstanze Rietsch
I will report on joint work with Lauren Williams in which we construct certain Newton-Okounkov convex bodies for the Grassmannian Gr_k(n). We use mirror symmetry to show that these convex bodies are in fact polytopes, and give explicit descriptions of them in terms of linear inequalities. The relevance of these polytopes to representation theory is that their lattice points count the dimension of the associated fundamental representation of GL_n. Moreover the lattice points in the r-th dilation of the polytope give the dimension of the representation, whose highest weight is r times the fundamental weight.

Please let Chris Bowman know by August 19th if you are coming to the meeting, especially if you are coming for lunch and/or wish to stay for a meal in the evening. As this is the fifth meeting this year, the funding is inevitably quite limited! So if you are a PhD student requiring funding for travel, then please also let Chris know in advance.

There will be time for informal discussions during the day.

The meeting is supported by an LMS Scheme 3 grant. This is used to help offset travel costs for those from institutions participating in the scheme, with priority given to speakers and postgraduates. Please note that, if travelling by train, then you should purchase an advance ticket where possible, since the grant will not cover standard open return tickets to London during peak hours.

Travel information is HERE.
