The presented papers provided a rich material for a scholarly discussion on a range of highly topical issues.

This half-day research seminar was dedicated to celebrating Europe Day. Prof Adam Cygan opened the seminar with the paper “A democratic legitimacy perspective on European citizenship”. A distinguished guest speaker Prof Dimitry Kochenov (University of Groningen) delivered a thought-provoking paper “Influence of EU law on the legal position of the nationalities of the Member States”. In her paper “Patient mobility in the EU and its link to social solidarity”, Dr  Oxana Golynker advocated re-conceptualisation of the regulation ofcross-border health care provision in the context of austerity policy. The seminar was concluded with a timely paper “The ‘others’ amongst ‘us’: some reflections”  presented by Dr Sonia Morano-Foadi (Oxford Brookes University)  linking European citizenship to the rights of third country nationals in the modern context of international conflict zones.

The seminar was open to staff and research students.
