Personal details

PhD. PgC

Before taking up the current post I was a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Edinburgh (2002-2004), a visiting professor at the University “Magna Græcia” of Catanzaro (2002-2007), a visiting research fellow at the University of Amsterdam (2003), an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel (2005-2006 and 2013), and a Marie Curie Fellow at the Goethe University of Frankfurt. I have also been a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Antwerp (2008-2010), a Visiting Research Professor at the University of Verona (2011), a Visiting Professor at the University of Modena (2012), and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. In 1996 I earned a Degree in Law (Summa cum Laude) at the University of Modena.

Over the recent years Stefano Bertea has had teaching and research experience at the universities of Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Leicester, Catanzaro, Kiel, Antwerpen, Verona and Moden.

My research interests lie in the fields of jurisprudence, political philosophy, and theory of legal reasoning. Thus far I have been concerned with two main issues: judicial reasoning and legal normativity, which I tried to show to be closely related and conceptually inseparable
