Dr Cortés was invited by the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament (JURI) to write and present a report on the European Small Claims Procedure in February 2015 at its bi-annual workshop (“Civil Law and Justice Forum: Cross-Border Activities in the EU - Making Life Easier for Citizens.”).

The report examines the proposal to amend the European Small Claims Procedure Regulation and makes a number of recommendations.

More efforts should be made to facilitate enforcement in consumer cases

Promoting and interconnecting out-of-court processes with the European Small Claims Procedure, particularly when these processes operate at national level and rely on distance means of communications.

The select attendees included members of the European Parliament and 28 national parliaments together with a small number of leading experts, including practitioners and academics.
