Gemma was appointed as a Lecturer in Law at Leicester in January 2009, having previously been a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Birmingham. Her research expertise is in causation in negligence, and her broader research and teaching interests are in the law of obligations. Her monograph, Evidential Uncertainty in Causation in Negligence, was published by Hart Publishing in early 2016.

She is a participant in the Crossing Boundaries? Private Remedies for Public Duties’ British Academy-funded international partnership project between University of Leicester and University of Cape Town (2014-2017) and will also be spending time as a visiting scholar at Sydney Law School in 2017 completing research in medical negligence.

Gemma is the Case Notes Review Editor for the Journal of Professional Negligence, and convenes the Private Law Research Cluster at Leicester Law School. She is also the Deputy Undergraduate Admissions Tutor in Law, responsible for Canadian applications, and a Canadian Law Society Liaison.
