Scholarship Success for Faculty of Law Finalist

Hannah Paling, LLB 3, has recently been awarded the Jules Thorn Scholarship from Middle Temple, London for the Bar Vocational Course (BVC), amounting to £9000.

The Inn of Court award will enable Hannah to undertake the BVC at Nottingham Law School in September 2005. Hannah has undertaken some mini pupillage work experience in various Barristers Chambers in between her undergraduate studies and believes that such experience is invaluable to both to pursuing a career at the Bar and when making applications for funding for the professional BVC course.

Hannah intends to qualify and work in the provinces after the BVC, specialising in crime, family and youth justice law. She also has aspirations to return to academia to teach law. Hannah is currently applying for pupillages through the OLPAS and the non-OPLAS route.

Hannah's top tips for future BVC scholarship applicants are to get relevant work experience (such as a mini pupillage, observing court proceedings or undertaking voluntary work), ensure your application is prepared as fully as possible and "be yourself" at interview.
