MacKay Cup mooting final 2018

Congratulations to the University of Sussex team of Liam Switzer and Francesca Fox, who took top honours in the final of the MacKay Cup, the national UK Canadian Law Mooting Competition.

This year’s competition took place on 2 May at Gray’s Inn with a particularly high standard of mooting. The judges, Mr Justice Green, and Noah Stewart-Ornstein, from Kirkland & Ellis International LLP, were very complementary of both the winning and runner-up team from City University (Dionne Boahene and Flora Curtis).

The UK Canadian Law Mooting Competition was founded in 2014 by the University of Leicester with the support of the Canada-UK Foundation. The aims of the competition are to promote knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Charter of Rights amongst law students studying at UK universities and to provide university students studying in the UK with experience and feedback in relation to Canadian appellate trial advocacy.

The competition could not take place without the support of its sponsors, whose help and support is gratefully acknowledged. In particular, we are grateful to our major sponsor, the Canada-UK Foundation for its continuing support of this competition, to Gray’s Inn Education Department, for allowing us to use their facilities, and to Baker McKenzie and Sweet & Maxwell for donating prizes.
