Lakshmi - MSc Advanced Computer Science

Lakshmi

About me

I am Lakshmi from Kerala, India. Once I had finished with my undergraduate BTech in Computer Science from the College of Engineering. I joined the University of Leicester to study for an MSc in Advanced Computer Science. I was apprehensive at first, not knowing if the British educational system would suit me or not. But I soon realised that I need not have had fears. I have come to love the life and atmosphere of the University of Leicester. It is such a lovely place to be in and the people are really friendly too!

Hobbies and Interests

I have a passion for programming! Ever since I was a child, I’ve always been interested in computers and I decided that it would be my career path. Although it may not be everybody’s cup of tea, I love coding. The many possibilities and challenges of programming intrigues me and makes me want to learn more and expand my horizons at the University of Leicester.

Aside from that, I am also interested in Japanese culture. At first it started with something as silly as being a fan of anime, but gradually I realised that there is more to Japan than anime. At the moment, I am trying to learn the alphabets of Kanji and trust me, it’s a very daunting task. But I do find pleasure in it and can now manage to speak elementary Japanese. Although I must admit, I still have a long way to go!

Advice for Prospective Students

There are a couple of things to keep in mind before starting at University. First of all, if you prefer to live in University housing, make sure that you have made arrangements before for arriving. Finding accommodation that suits your needs and budget can be difficult, if you are not prepared beforehand. There are a lot of websites online providing this information, so make sure to look it up. And secondly, learn to cook. I cannot stress this enough. Unless you are okay with eating bland, burnt food or ordering from restaurants, some cooking skills will indeed come in handy. And lastly, make sure you make the most of the time at the University of Leicester. Get involved in everything you possibly can, make a bunch of friends, have fun and oh, don’t forget to study too. Ultimately, it will be one of the most memorable times of your life.
