Support for your Studies

Combining postgraduate study with the challenges of managing your career and other commitments can seem daunting at first. However, the University of Leicester has years of experience of providing high-quality distance learning courses within a supportive and structured framework, and we are as committed to helping you succeed as you are.

The Student Support Officers in the Distance Learning team will be your first point of contact. They will answer any procedural questions you might have or will direct you to a module tutor if you need academic support.

Personal tutor

You will be assigned a personal tutor for the duration of your studies. Your personal tutor will be an academic member of staff who will be able to offer advice and guidance throughout your studies. You will be offered personal tutor (virtual) meetings at relevant points in your studies.

Dissertation supervisor

When you reach the dissertation/project stage, you will be assigned a supervisor whose area of expertise aligns with your chosen topic. Your supervisor will support you throughout your project with one-to-one discussion and by providing feedback on your bi-weekly diaries and interim reports.

Library

As a distance learning student, you will have access to the University Library’s electronic services, the Leicester Digital Library, which includes a large number of e-journals and e-books.

If you live close to Leicester you can of course visit the Library in person. For UK-based students who wish to use other libraries, we can issue you with a card which allows you to do so. This is a national scheme which allows distance learning students to borrow material from up to three other participating libraries.
