Support for Carers

As a Department, we aim to ensure that our meetings are held within our core hours of 9:30am and 3:30pm, to allow as much flexibility as possible for those with caring responsibilities.

The University's Staff Counselling & Wellbeing Service has put together a Carer's Pack to explain what support is available to Carers, to help you in the difficult task of managing a caring responsibility and work. This includes legal rights and external sources of financial and practical help.

Carer’s Conference and Training Fund

Conference hallIt has been identified by staff that attendance at external conferences and events and training can pose difficulties for those with caring responsibilities. With this in mind a fund has been identified to which those with caring responsibilities can apply for a small budget (£100 maximum) to fund, for example: additional childcare costs incurred by attending an external training event (which impacts their usual caring responsibilities); contribution to the additional cost of a partner/relative and child joining a member of staff at a conference to provide childcare support.

The funds aims are to:

  • Assist those unable to attend external training and conferences due to carer commitments which will require additional financial support.
  • Enable continued attendance at external training and conferences which may prove difficult with caring responsibilities.
  • Assist staff to sustain effective networking opportunities outside the university.
  • Support staff with caring responsibilities to continue interaction, networking and collaboration at a national and (where funds allow) an international level.

This initiative is open to all staff.  To make an application, please visit: http://www2.le.ac.uk/institution/womenatleicester/maternity-and-childcare/conference-carer-support-fund

Should you require support from the Department in connection with your caring responsibilites, please contact your line manager or Head of Department. Advice can be sought from Staff Counselling & Wellbeing, HR or the Department Equalities Officer, Karen Smith.
