girls at microscopeThe Department offers excellent facilities for postgraduate research leading to a PhD. You can find out more about the research interests of the Department by looking at the Research Pages.

The Department receives studentships from Research Councils and other funding bodies and these will be advertised when available. These studentships are available to UK students and EU students who have been resident in the UK for more than 3 years.

Current Studentships

We welcome informal enquires from students with their own source of funding. Here is a list of available PhD projects in the department or go to our People section which lists academic staff and their particular research interests.

Students are welcomed from more than 70 countries to study at the University.  There are a range of services and offices to provide help for international students within the University.
