Biography

I worked for the Open University between 1976 and 2011 in a variety of management roles, including as Head of Planning, Director of Strategy, and Director of Government Relations.  I was Director of the Writing Service between 2011 and 2013, writing bespoke speeches and reports for executives and others working in higher education.  I am now fully retired.

Research

I completed a PhD in the Centre for English Local History in 2017.  The thesis is entitled ‘The Microhistory of a Lincolnshire Parish: Humberston 1750-1850’ and is available on the Leicester Research Archive.  I continue to pursue research interests in aspects of north Lincolnshire history, particularly in the period after 1520.

I am also undertaking research for the Victoria County History (VCH) for Leicestershire which is based in the Centre for English Local History.  The VCH is a significant historical enterprise designed to write the history of every village, town and county in England.  In particular, I am helping to research and write the history of Ibstock in north-west Leicestershire.  The intention is to publish a full parish history in 2020.
