Personal details

I completed my PhD in 2018 at the University of Leicester. My thesis examined the experiences of war widows and orphans during the British civil wars. It primarily drew on hundreds of petitions for relief submitted by war victims to various national and provincial authorities, as well as parish records, contemporary newsbooks, and letters of condolence. I am currently working on the AHRC-funded project ‘Conflict, Welfare and Memory During and After the English Civil Wars, 1642-1710’, led by Professor Andrew Hopper. I am also involved in a project examining the household accounts of Robert and Katherine Greville, Lord and Lady Brooke of Warwick, during the 1640s. These accounts offer a fascinating insight into elite consumption and material culture, Lord Brooke’s intellectual and political networks on the eve of the civil war, and the measures taken by his widow to run the family's estates following his death at the siege of Lichfield in 1643.
