Dr Jacqueline Richards

I am social historian of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and have a particular regional specialism in the study of Dorset. Over the next two years I will be working on a major book manuscript which deals with the nature, character and extent of the makeshift economy in English market towns between the 1780s and 1830s. This book will reshape our understanding of how the most ordinary people 'made do' in this period of profound socio-economic and cultural change.
