Writing for Publication

A one day heritage CPD course designed to offer heritage practitioners guidance on how to edit reports for publication. This course will be held in Leicester on the 12 September 2017.

This one day course is designed to appeal to heritage practitioners, early career archaeologists and researchers, community groups, and anyone who wants to develop their report writing skills for publication in peer review journals, academic texts, monographs, or other forms of publication.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the nature of different types of publication - participants will be asked to review and understand the key features of different types of publication.
  • Meeting publication standards - attendees will understand how to present and edit text to meet publication standards.
  • Writing in different styles - we will explore the different uses of language and how these can help explain findings to different audiences.
  • Writing with authority - explore how different types of sources present their information, and which sources to refer to depending on the intended audience.
  • Picture research & understanding copyright - exploring image sources and and copyright standards.
