This exciting two day course on the 27 & 28 September 2017 is intended to introduce archaeologists to the various issues surrounding historic building survey. With contributions from Senior Investigators at Historic England, independent scholars, and led by Dr Adam Menuge from the University of Cambridge, and Dr lucy Jessop from Historic England the course will cover types of building from the medieval through to the twentieth century.

The course will take a broadly chronological structure, focusing on the medieval through to the eighteenth century on the first day, followed by the nineteenth and twentieth century on the morning of the second day. The afternoon of day 2 will consist of a walking tour of Leicester to explore the themes discussed during the earlier sessions, the course will then conclude with a panel discussion of the topics covered.

Titles of courses include:

  • Medieval housing and vernacular traditions.
  • Architectural details as artefact and evidence.
  • Housing and everyday architecture: the suburban experience

Location

The course will be held in the Charles Wilson Building on the University of Leicester's main campus. Directions to the campus can be found here.

Lunch on both days will be provided in the Charles Wilson Building in our restaurant on the 1st Floor.
