NIHR Programme Grant

In 2008 the TIMMS group were awarded an NIHR Programme Grant to undertake a programme of work entitled ‘Towards reducing variations in infant mortality and morbidity: a population approach’.

This research programme comprises two streams:
Stream 1 investigates why babies die in the 1st year of life (e.g. prematurity, serious birth defect, infection) and explores health inequalities across the UK relating to local factors such as deprivation, ethnicity and place of birth. For more details see Understanding Inequalities in Cause Specific Infant Mortality

Stream 2 is the LAMBS study which is looking at the group of babies born moderately premature (4 to 7 weeks early). For more details see LAMBS.
