Biography

After obtaining a first class BSc in Sociology and a Masters in Social Research Methods (with distinction) from Loughborough University, Liz Sutton researched poverty, social class and disadvantage at the Centre for Research in Social Policy at Loughborough University.

In 2012 she joined SAPPHIRE, and began to focus on health research and evaluating quality improvement projects in the NHS, developing her ethnographic skills and, she says, spending many happy hours conducting observations in a number of hospital situations. Liz is particularly interested in staff and patients’ perspectives of patient involvement in secondary (hospital) healthcare.

She says, Patients benefit from our research as we learn how to improve patient safety, and learn which approaches work best in different contexts within healthcare settings.

In her spare time Liz is the chair of her local amateur dramatics group and can often be spotted in one of their theatrical productions performing in various wigs, moustaches and sequins - sometimes all at once.
