Biography

Jennifer has a first degree in Business Studies from The City University. She then went on to do a Masters in Applied Social Research at the University of Westminster. Jennifer’s PhD at The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine was partly funded by Cancer Research UK and was entitled Constructing identities through narrative: stories told by people diagnosed with bladder or kidney cancer about the time commonly labelled as delay. Jennifer worked at the Office for National Statistics as an epidemiologist before joining Cancer Research UK (formerly Cancer Research Campaign) as a Statistical Information Manager.

While finishing off her PhD Jennifer was a Research Associate at St George’s University working on a study investigating the position of Physician Assistants within primary care settings. Since completing her PhD Jennifer has also worked as an analyst for the National Cancer Intelligence Network based at Public Health England. She returned to work for Cancer Research UK and was involved in a large-scale project looking at Significant Event Audits completed in primary care on patients who had had their cancer diagnosed through an emergency route. In 2015 Jennifer set up her own business ‘Qualjenuity’ to provide qualitative analysis services.

Jennifer is now based in the SAPPHIRE team at Leicester University working on the NIHR funded PEARL (Patient Experience and Reflective Learning) study with Dr Carolyn Tarrant. The PEARL study aims to create a Reflective Learning Framework within secondary care settings based on Patient Experience data. Jennifer has been interested in health research for over 20 years, particularly the journey of the person through the health care system and more recently how health care professionals can learn from when these journeys are not as smooth as they could be.

In her spare time Jennifer enjoys spending time with her two sons, reading, taking photos and playing bananagrams. She is also a Parent Governor at her sons’ secondary school and helps there with fundraising.
