Welcome to SAPPHIRE's monthly roundup of updates from the team, including achievements and academic news.

Achievements

Congratulations to Liz Sutton for gaining a bursary to attend a summer school at Kings College London on carrying out social science research in health care settings.

Caroline Morris who, with colleagues, has finalised the programme for the SAPPHIRE ethnography event.

Dr Eva Krockow, who reports that “The College of Medicine, Biological Sciences & Psychology awarded me one of the three College PhD Prizes 2016-17. The prize consists of a certificate and a cheque for £150. Additionally, I’ve been invited to give one of the Graduate School Doctoral Inaugural Lectures during the academic year 2016-17.”

Dr Emma Jones has also been awarded one of the three Departmental prizes.

Finally, Lucy Taylor and Katie Brown have both achieved firsts in their iBScs.

Academic news

Liz Sutton has had a paper accepted for MedSoc in September entitled: Patients’ understandings of safety - trust and vulnerability.

Dr Damian Roland, along with Dr Simon Robinson from University Hospitals Leicester and Dr William Green from Leicester Business School, have been awarded £50000 to further roll out their safety huddles toolkit to Emergency Departments in the East Midlands.
