Congratulations to Prof Mary Dixon-Woods on her exciting new appointment

SAPPHIRE and the University of Leicester would like to congratulate Prof Mary Dixon-Woods on her appointment to the RAND Professorship of Health Services Research at the University of Cambridge from May 2016.

A fellow of both the Academy of Social Sciences and the Academy of Medical Sciences and a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator, Mary leads the SAPPHIRE research group in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Leicester, specialising in the study of quality and safety in healthcare. In May 2015 she was recognised as one of 12 inspirational women at the university.

Mary said “I am excited to take up my new post at Cambridge. I will miss many wonderful colleagues at the University of Leicester and will take away many very fond memories of more than 20 years here. But I look forward to frequent return visits and to continuing collaborations to ensure that the very best quality evidence informs the care of patients.”

Prof Graham Martin, Head of the Department of Health Sciences, said “We wish Mary all the very best with her new role, in which she will no doubt go from strength to strength. We very much look forward to working with her in the future. Dr Natalie Armstrong and Dr Carolyn Tarrant will take over joint leadership of SAPPHIRE so it is in very safe hands indeed.”
