Jo commenced her PhD studentship in September 2018 and will be undertaking a project looking at the role of perinatal mortality investigations.  This is a collaborative project between the Social Science Applied to Health Research Group (SAPPHIRE) and The Infant Mortality and Morbidity (TIMMS) group.  Jo will be exploring the national implementation of the Perinatal Mortality Review Tool (PMRT), which has been developed by a collaboration led by MBRRACE-UK.

Jo is a registered midwife who qualified with a first-class degree in Midwifery from De Montfort University in 2006.  She continues to work part time as a Specialist Midwife for Bereavement at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL).  She has held research midwife roles within UHL and was the Clinical Advisor to the MBRRACE-UK Perinatal Confidential Enquiry Programme from October 2016 to September 2018.

Jo’s clinical and academic interests are driven by the principle that working in partnership with parents, other healthcare professionals, and stakeholders such as the local and national SANDS representatives, is key for improving care for the bereaved parents affected by perinatal loss.
