Personal Details

After graduating with a BSc in Financial Mathematics in 2012, I completed both my MSc in Medical Statistics (2014), and PhD titled "Development of flexible parametric models for competing risks and tools to facilitate in the understanding and communication of cancer survival" (2018), all at the University of Leicester. I then joined the Biostatistics Research Group as a Research Associate and was awarded an NIHR Advanced Fellowship (0.5 WTE) in March 2020.

My NIHR Fellowship primarily builds on my PhD to further explore methods in competing risks and multi-state models within the Royston-Parmar flexible parametric modelling framework. These methods will be extended to consider implications in prognostic modelling. For the development and application of methodologies, VICORI (virtual cardio-oncology research initiative) data will be used. This links national cardiovascular and oncology data in the UK. In particular, I will evaluate the effect of comorbidities (e.g. cardiovascular disease) on cancer outcome in the presence of competing risks.

I also developed a Stata command, stpm2cr, and the online interactive web-tool, InterPreT Cancer Survival (https://interpret.le.ac.uk). I intend on developing additional online interactive tools for communicating my research using d3.js.

Main areas of research interest include:

  • Development of  Royston-Parmar flexible parametric survival models
  • Competing risks & multi-state models
  • Prognostic modelling in the presence of competing risks
  • Multiple time-scales
  • Analysis of national oncology and cardiovascular audit data e.g. VICORI
  • Interactive visualisations using d3.js
  • Software development in Stata
