Reporting IT problems

Please report IT problems to  You will need to provide your University username, location and HS-???? number of your PC/laptop. Alternatively, visit IT Help for Staff to locate various support mechanisms for staff.

Email signatures

Staff are requested to set up a standard University email signature.  Please contact if you need any assistance with this.

Where to save your work & requesting access to folders

R Drive - for research data and work.  Folder permissions set by individual research groups.

X Drive - for the administration of the Department.  Folder permission set by Debbie Oldham (see below)

Z Drive - your own personal area to save things

OneDrive online storage

Members of staff may need to gain access to folders stored in the departmental shared area of the X drive. For security purposes staff will need to:

  • Obtain permission from the Group Lead/File Owner/Data Owner via email.
  • Forward email (containing permission) to the Departmental Manager (
    • Include the full file path i.e. X:\Health Sciences\Department\Dept Open Access
    • Include the user id for each person requiring access i.e. do43
  • Departmental Manager will authorise IT Services to assign permission to the user
  • Any requests without the approval of the Group Lead/File Owner/Data Owner will NOT be authorised.

Please note the Department will attempt to obtain folder access authorisation for new staff starters from the recruiting staff member.

Disposal of IT equipment

The Department is responsible for ensuring that IT equipment is disposed of in a controlled manner and in line with the relevant University financial regulations regarding the Disposal of IT equipment.
