Hours and Pay

How many hours should I be working?

The number of hours a member of staff should be working is determined primarily by grade.  For full time staff, the hours are staff work are as follows:

Grades 1 and 2 = 37 hours per week (pro-rata for part time staff)

Grades 3, 4 and 5 = 35 hours per week (pro-rata for part time staff)

Grades 6 and above = indeterminate hours (although for the purposes of determining part time hours is 37.5 hours per week)

I am paid from a European grant.  Do I need to fill in time sheets?

Yes, staff paid on European grants need to complete monthly time sheets, which should be submitted in hard copy (not electronic) to the grants administrators at PRW.  Important information about requirements for European grants can be found here.

When do I get paid?

All staff on the University payroll get paid on the last working day of every month, except in December where payment is normally a week or two earlier due to the Christmas break.  With effect from November 2014, information confirming details of pay and associated deductions will only be available from the electronic salary statement held within the Employee Self Service (ESS) facility.  Information on how to access ESS and FAQ’s can be found here.
