What is my annual leave entitlement?

Annual leave is calculated by calendar year (1 Jan - 31 Dec), and for full time staff equates to 24 days bookable annual leave, plus eight bank holidays and six University closure days.  This totals 38 days leave in any calendar year.  This is pro rata for part time staff.

Annual Leave Purchase Scheme

The University has an annual leave purchase scheme whereby you can apply to purchase additional annual leave days.

What are the Department's Responsibilities

  • To calculate annual leave entitlement for staff and advise staff of entitlement and mechanism for booking leave in line with University policy.

At the beginning of each year, staff will be emailed an annual leave booking form and details of their entitlement for that year.  New staff joining the Department will receive this information within their welcome packs.

  • To maintain accurate records of annual leave taken for all staff

Please ensure that when booking annual leave you obtain your Line Manager's permission and then forward your booking form to Debra Bugler, (by email) so that records can be updated.

  • To manage the carry forward of annual leave (max 5 days) from one year to the next.

Staff may carry over a maximum of 5 days annual leave from one calendar year to the next (pro rata for part time staff).  Details of this will appear on your booking form that is emailed to you at the beginning of each calendar year.
