Rules for Entrants - Three Minute Thesis

1. Presenters must be:

a. registered on a doctoral (PhD, MD, PsyD, EdD, EngD, DClinPsy, or DSocSci) or MPhil programme at the University of Leicester at the date of entry

and

b. registered on a doctoral (PhD, MD, PsyD, EdD, EngD, DClinPsy, or DSocSci) or MPhil programme at the University of Leicester at the date of the 3-Minute Thesis Competition event – i.e., 31 May 2017

2. Presentations are limited to three minutes maximum and presenters exceeding three minutes will be disqualified.

3. Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through movement or speech.

4. Presentations must commence from the stage.

5. Presentations must be spoken word - i.e., no poems, songs, raps, etc.

6. Presenters may use a single MS PowerPoint slide to illustrate their presentation. The slide must not involve:

a. slide transitions/animations

b. audio or video files

7. Slides must include the University logo in the top left corner and in its original colours.

8. Presenters are responsible for ensuring that they seek permission to use in their slides images or other content to which a third party holds the copyright.

9. The MS PowerPoint slide must be displayed for the duration of the presentation.

10. Presenters may not use equipment or props of any kind - e.g., costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment, etc.

11. If the presentation or slide features content which could constitute intellectual property - e.g., a research discovery with possible commercial value - presenters must obtain the consent of their supervisors and, if needed, their sponsors, to enter the competition.

12. Registrations must be submitted by 17:00 BST Friday, 7 April 2017 using the online form. Applications received after that time will not be accepted.

13. The judges’ decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

14. Presenters are required to be in attendance for the full duration of the competition event - in 2017 the 3-Minute Thesis competition event is taking place Wednesday, 31 May 2017. Failure to attend on the day of the competition event will result in a fee of £50 being charged to the presenter's supervisor.

15. At the competition event presenters are required to act in an appropriate manner and to welcome and engage with visitors, guests, judges, and fellow participants.

16. At the competition event presenters are required to wear smart attire.
